A wee bit about the artist behind The Old Folly Bears, Amanda Jayne… Let me tell you about my bears, I like to design & create smaller bears around 3-4.5 inches, normally based on traditional/old timers in a whimsical way. I use the finest German mohair to recreate your first childhood teddy bear or a bear that your grandmother had in her childhood. My bears are filled with steel shot or glass sand for added weight.
My bears are created to look vintage in style, some are even threadbare, they are designed to look like they’ve had many hugs & lots of love over the years. Each bear is hand stitched, I then add rustic embellishments like pendants etc
Over the past 22 years 'wow has it been that long' I have completed commissions for customers across the world including from the UK, America (including Hawaii) Australia, Germany, France & Switzerland. I am happy to ship world wide. All my bears are hand made & each is a unique creation.
I grew up not too far from Hartfield in the South East of England, the vicinity known for Winnie The Pooh! Visiting the woodlands as a child I was captivated by the magical presence of the place as created by A.A. Milne. I now live on the North Antrim Coastline, 5 miles from the Giants Causeway. I am surrounded by countryside, ancient woodlands & the best thing of all many miles of golden sandy beaches. My beach looks out to Donegal & is a beautiful place of inspiration & often my bear designs have come to fruition from spending time there. Even on a blustery day the Atlantic Ocean blows the cobwebs away.
